It was Election Night 2005. The exit poll had come out showing a comfortable win for Labour albeit on a substantially reduced majority and the Liberal Democrats on an historic high. That was the story for the rest of the night, but there were differing swings up and down the country, with marginals staying put and safe seats tumbling.
I was immediately obsessed. Ever since, I obsess over polling, get excited by boundary reviews and love the twist and turn of every election campaign.
If you’re an avid follower of election, you do notice how badly they can be reported in the media. Polling methods are misunderstood, myths are perpetuated and there is no sophisticated understanding of electoral history.
This blog is a small attempt to right some of those wrongs. More importantly its an attempt to share that obsession and perhaps some of that pointless trivia I’ve gained over the years.
